During World War II, Dwight D. Eisenhower served as Supreme Allied Commander in Europe and was responsible for the planning of D-Day and the defeat of the Germans. As President, he is best remembered for the building of our Interstate Highway System and the sending of federal troops to Little Rock, Arkansas to enforce school integration.

Dwight Eisenhower was born on October 14, 1890 in Denison, Texas. His parents were David Jacob Eisenhower and Ida Elizabeth Stover. On his father’s side, Eisenhower’s great-great-great grandfather Hans Nicholas Eisenhauer emigrated from the Palatinate area of Germany to Philadelphia in 1741 and settled in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. In 1878, his great-grandfather Frederick Eisenhower moved the family to Abilene, Kansas.
