At age 69, Ronald Reagan was the oldest individual to be elected President of the United States. He also was the first actor and the only individual to be divorced who served as President. During his first term, Reagan survived an assassination attempt.

After his presidency, Reagan was diagnosed as having Alzheimer’s disease and retired out of public life. In presidential rankings, Reagan ranks near the top of America’s presidents. Ronald Reagan was born on February 6, 1911 in Tampico, Illinois.

His parents were John Edward Reagan and Nelle (Clyde) Wilson. His father’s ancestors were of Irish descent while his mother’s ancestors were of Scottish descent. On his father’s side, his great-grandfather Michael Reagan migrated from Ireland to London, England during the great potato famine in Ireland, and then migrated to America in 1856 where he settled in Fairhaven, Illinois.
